On November 27, the Honors College had the honor to invite Professor Hou Guolin from the School of Geographic Sciences to give a lecture entitled "Rambling Geography" in the reporting room of Xuehai Building.

Hou Guolin is the dean and professor of the Department of Tourism Management, School of Geographic Sciences, Nanjing Normal University, vice President of Dazu University Research Center, Nanjing Normal University, managing director of Jiangsu Tourism Association, secretary-general of Nanjing Tourism Association, etc. Professor Hou is mainly engaged in tourism industry development, tourism planning and tourism management and other areas of research and teaching. He has presided over or participated in more than 10 research projects at or above the provincial or ministerial level, presided over or participated in more than 50 government-commissioned tourism planning and scheming projects, and published more than 50 papers in Chinese and foreign academic journals.
In the lecture, Professor Hou Guolin systematically introduced the major of geographic science from three aspects: what is geography, geography of Nanjing Normal University and how to learn geography. First, Professor Hou introduced the meaning, research object, research scope, research focus and other contents of geography, fully explained the intersection of geography and its wide range of applications combined with geography and national conditions monitoring. After that, Professor Hou discussed the development of geography of Nanjing Normal University, mentioned the achievements made by the faculty and students of Nanjing Normal University in geography. Combined with the Honors College’s training scheme and curriculum, he put forward his expectations for the college’s students and made them realize the importance of mastering the system, cultivating the explorative spirit and developing the spirit of striving to the top. The lecture was successfully ended in the warm applause of all the participants at present.
This lecture gives students of the class of 2019 a simple and comprehensive understanding of geographic sciences. Besides, it also proposed relevant learning methods and ideas, so as to encourage students to have a better and clearer plan in the future course learning.
