At 16:00 on March 7th, the Honors College had the honor to invite Professor Sun Zhiwei from Nanjing University to give an academic lecture called “the Mystery of Integer Representation” to students who have a strong interest in mathematics in the conference hall.

Firstly, the deputy president of the Honors College, Cao Haitao, expressed his great welcome to Professor Sun Zhiwei on behalf of all the students present and gave a brief introduction of his academic achievements. Professor Sun has made hundreds of valuable mathematical conjectures and has made great contributions to the mathematical research both at home and abroad.
After the introduction, the profound lecture began. Professor Sun started with “foundation of mathematics” and the reporting content covered the breakthrough and three crisis of mathematical development. Combined with examples, he introduced some landmark figures in the history of mathematics and their academic achievements. Meanwhile, he employed some important conjectures to inspire students to think actively.
Finally, Professor Sun answered the problems raised by students carefully and recommended several meaningful academic books on mathematics, expressing his expectations to students from the Honors College.
Professor Sun’s blackboard-writing was concise and organized and his speaking was humorous, enthusiastic and infectious. He also paid attention to interact with students. As a result, students all listened and wrote down carefully and thought actively. Through the lecture, students learned a lot, further felt the charm of mathematics and had more passion on exploring this subject.
