From February 17th to 23rd in 2019, 47 students and teachers from Honors College of Nanjing Normal University went to Hong Kong to carry out the visiting activities under the guidance of college counselor Wang Liuyan. The program was jointly organized by Honors College and the “Educator” magazine of Guangming Daily. It also received strong support from departments and leaders of Nanjing Normal University and Honors College. After two months of preparation, all activities of this visit to Hong Kong were carried out successfully.
In the early morning of February 17th, all students who participated in this program gathered at the gate of university, driving to Pudong international airport in Shanghai, and flew to Hong Kong which was the destination of this study visit. As one of the world's three major financial centers, Hong Kong is a place where both Eastern and Western cultures gather, with the unique location and complex historical achievements. In order to help students to improve skills about cross-cultural understanding and communication, the program arranged a number of activities including class study, lecture exchange and social practice.
Students visited Hong Kong Polytechnic University which is famous for its exquisite campus, the Chinese University of Hong Kong whose teaching philosophy is "combining tradition and modernity, integrating East and the West" and the University of Hong Kong which is known as the "Ivy League" in Asia. In addition to participating a series of courses on topics such as “Science and Technology Innovation”, “Corporate Leadership Training” and “Innovation and Entrepreneurship”, students visited famous buildings of universities in Hong Kong to experience the rich cultural environment as well. In the form of group cooperation, students attended Professor Daniel Lee's lectures all in English and actively discussed questions raised by the professor, fully demonstrating the diligent learning attitude and excellent learning method of Honors College students. At the same time, students consulted about the postgraduate application and other related matters of these three world-renowned colleges so as to prepare for their future study in advance.
Besides attending lectures and classes, students were also active in practice. On February 20th, they went to Sham Shui Po - the representative of old Hong Kong and improved team cohesion and collaboration, in the form of "directional competition punching". They were guided to feel the "activation" of Hong Kong for the protection of cultural relics. The exhibitions and presentations of Lui Seng Chun, Mei Ho House, Taikwun and Hong Kong Museum of History enabled students to fully learn about the measures taken by Hong Kong in revitalizing historic sites. They firmly believed that every ancient city in China could do everything that young Hong Kong was doing. Simultaneously, students carried out researches related to this subject, achieving a lot.
At the end of the program, students visited the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Hong Kong branch of Prudential to feel the vitality of innovation and the efficient and orderly pace of Hong Kong. Through a series of simulated financing activities combined with innovation and entrepreneurship training, students not only expanded international vision but also cultivated entrepreneurial ability and innovative spirit.
Honors College is committed to cultivating excellent talents with solid foundation and innovation ability and helping them become excellent graduate students. This study visit agrees with the idea of running and the goal of talent training of Honors College.
