From May 17th to 19th, the 2019 Jiangsu Computer Design Competition was held at China University of Mining and Technology. The competition was jointly organized by the Jiangsu Computer Design Competition Organizing Committee, Jiangsu Computer Society, China University of Mining and Technology and Education Department of Jiangsu Provincial Government. The team formed by the Honors College students Fang Zidong, Gu Ying and Peng Lingling won the first prize in the competition with the national competition recommendation qualification. They will go to Peking University participating in the competition in July this year.

The competition was founded in 2008 and hosted 52 events in 11 sessions. The purpose of the competition is to improve the overall quality of college students, to guide them to participate in extracurricular science and technology activities and to stimulate students' interest and potential in learning computer skills. Moreover, the competition works for the cultivation of talents with all-round development so that they can use information technology to solve practical problems, having innovation and entrepreneurship ability and teamwork spirit as well. The competition this year attracted 90 universities in Jiangsu province, with a total of 1,500 players and 932 entries. The final size increased by 50% compared with the previous ones.
This year, under the guidance of teacher Li Anbo and Guo Fei of School of Geography in Nanjing Normal University, the team, consisting of Fang Zidong, Gu Ying and Peng Lingling from 2016 science class in Honors College, successfully entered the final of the Jiangsu Computer Design Competition after several months of preparation with school competition selection and provincial competition qualification review. The final was officially started on May 18th with 17 categories. The three students in Honors College chose the data visualization subclass of information visualization design. Their defense was examined according to technicality, maturity, innovative ideas and practical significance. Moreover, the judges asked questions for each work, pointing out the deficiencies and offering guidance for further development. The closing ceremony and the award ceremony was held on the morning of May 19th at the Science Museum of China University of Mining and Technology. At the closing ceremony of the contest, the winners of the Jiangsu University Computer Design Competition, the Outstanding Organization Award, and the Outstanding Instructor Award were announced and awarded.
This Jiangsu University Student Computer Design Competition is aimed at further stimulating students' enthusiasm for learning computer skills and cultivating students' teamwork ability and innovative entrepreneurial spirit. It also selects outstanding works for this summer's China University Computer Design Competition.
