Honors College Held the Third Nanjing Normal University Press Scholarship for Overseas Studies Review Meeting

On the afternoon of December 20th, the third Nanjing Normal University Press Scholarship for Overseas Studies Review Meeting was held in the 413 auditorium of Xuehai Building in Xianlin campus. School Party Committee and Vice President, Fu Kangsheng, chief official of Press, Peng Zhibin, Editor-in-Chief, Xu Lei, Deputy Director of Academic Affairs Office, Zhu Zheng, Deputy Director of Studnts’ Affairs Department, Sun Maohua, Deputy Director of the Office of International Exchange, Shi Huiming, Deputy Secretary of Youth League Community, Han Miao and the leading group of Honors College attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by headmaster Fu, head of the review committee.
During the meeting, President Fu pointed out that NNU Press sets up Scholarship for overseas studies to help and support the students of Honors College to go to high-level universities in the world to further their studies in which way they can expand international horizons, improve innovative spirit and leadership and become talents with international vision and lofty ambitions. He emphasized that we should further promote the guiding value and exemplary significance of the scholarship among students. Scholarship recipients should have a solid professional foundation, superior learning, research and communication skills and the interdisciplinary learning ability. Besides, candidates should show excellent scientific research ability and innovative ability in international exchange. All above are important manifestations of college's goal which is training top innovative talents.
Luo Xiushan, deputy secretary and vice president of the Party Committee for Honors College, reviewed the general situation of international exchange in the previous academic year and introduced the project condition, performance in the English defense and achievements during the exchange of 15 applicants for the scholarship. They participated in the China Scholarship Council, the provincial government and NNU exchange programs to go to 13 high-level universities for study. Their diverse thinking habits, cooperation spirit, ability in English speaking and scientific innovation, and comprehensive qualifications were significantly enhanced, which greatly promoted other students to pay more attention to English learning and joining in exchange.
Subsequently, the review committee accorded to provisions of the file, in line with the principle of "selecting at every level, selecting the best" to carefully review the results. Finally, the committee selected Wang Min and other 12 outstanding students as the winners of Scholarship for Overseas Studies.
Professor Peng Zhibin, the member of the review committee, sponsor of Scholarship for Overseas Studies and chief official of press, said that the press has always attached great importance to the training of international talents. It was of great significance to finance outstanding students of Honors College in international exchanges. On the one hand, it explored the way to cultivate elites for the school in the internationalization background. On the other hand, it aimed to encourage and guide more excellent students to actively participate in international exchanges. After they return, they use new knowledge to contribute to the society, especially to the press and publication industry.
Ultimately, Professor Qian Zaixian, the Dean of Honors College, expressed his sincere gratitude to the review committee and brother units for their long-term care. Besides, he pointed out that the college would further stimulate the strategy of international teaching to cultivate leading students with international perspectives. Furthermore, the college would make efforts for the cultivation of the top innovative talents and the improvement of the overall quality of personnel training in NNU.
