Honors College Conducted a Friendly Exchange with Chien-Shiung Wu College of Southeast University

On the afternoon of 10th December, led by Luo Xiushan, the Vice President and the Vice Party Secretary of Honors College, the representatives of teachers and students in Honors College visited Chien-Shiung Wu College in Kowloon Lake Campus of Southeast University for exchange activities.
Gathering in the Student Center, the representatives made a brief introduction of the basic situations of their respective colleges. Zhong Hui, the Vice President and Vice Party Secretary of Chien-Shiung Wu College, and Luo Xiushan each delivered a speech, expressing their high attention to the exchanges between two colleges. Then the teacher representatives exchanged souvenirs to show their expectations of the long lasting friendship between two colleges.
Subsequently, the activity came to an interaction part. The teachers walked into the conference room and had a deep discussion about the curriculum, training scheme and international exchanges of each college. Besides, they also discussed the troubles in the reform and the measures they took. Zhong explained that with enrollment in college entrance examination and selection among all freshmen both accounting for 50%, Chien-Shiung Wu College now takes the selection form of written tests and interviews. They add the oral English test into selection and conduct one vote veto of physical fitness measurement. Under the guideline of “thick foundation, broad caliber, divergent subjects and strong individuality”, Chien-Shiung Wu College adopts the training pattern of 2+2. In the preliminary stage, according to eight modules and six categories, students strengthen their basis of general disciplines and make a clear decision on their majors. Latterly, students can independently select all four-year science and engineering majors and accept personalized cultivation. They also invites scholars at home and abroad to give specific guidance to the students. Besides, imitating the modes in Oxford and University of Cambridge, they arranges students to live together in the cultivation of college system. Students can accept the dual guidance of college supervisors and professional supervisors. In addition, the college implements the complete credit system, vigorously implements international communication program and checks the school rolls of honors students to achieve the goal of rolling cultivation and issue the certificates for qualified honors students. Southeast University also attaches great importance to Chien-Shiung Wu College and supports the development of the college with sufficient funds.
At the same time, the presidents of Student Union in both colleges shared their experience on organization structure and activities of the student union. On the basis of a more comprehensive understanding of each other, students at the meeting also interacted with each other on the questions of study and life. In the end, the presidents of Student Union signed the student union agreement to build a mutual fraternal college relationship.
After nearly three hours of pleasant talking, the learning and exchange activity came to a successful conclusion. At the end of the activity, the teachers and students from Honors College visited the Kowloon Lake Campus and took a group photo with the lead of students from Chien-Shiung Wu College.
The two honorary colleges, which both have the superior source and the faculty in their universities, have many similarities in the cultivation mode and the training concept. This exchange provides new ideas for both the development of the two colleges, which is of great significance to both sides. “Maintaining your motivation, becoming a talent” is not just a slogan, but also a good beginning.
