Professor Wei Shaohua Delivered a Lecture on Talents Cultivation in Honors College

At 4 p.m. on 29th of November, Honors College held a lecture on the theme of cultivating innovative talents in the new era. Wei Shaohua, the Dean of the Graduate School in Nanjing Normal University, the Professor and PhD supervisor at School of Chemistry and Materials Science, delivered the lecture.
Starting from the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Professor Wei expounded the new idea, new strategy and new contradiction in the new era and pointed out the opportunities and challenges students will encounter. At first, he introduced some scientific theories and advanced technology, such as artificial intelligence, Internet of things and big data. Subsequently, he explained the advantages of China at present, including the accumulation of talents, the breakthrough of technology and output capability. He emphasized the significance of talents, which is the first productive force of technology and innovation. At present, there still exists contradiction between the increasing demand of high-level talents and the unbalanced development of postgraduate education. Based on the situation, Professor Wei advocated cultivating innovative, applied and integrated talents.
At last, Professor Wei pointed out the importance of making good choices in the university and suggested that Honors College freshmen learn basic subjects well to lay solid foundation for future. What’s more, he analyzed the problems graduates encounter and the demand for master degree, which helped students have a better understanding of their college study and life.
