Honors College Held the Forth 2017-2018 Fulbright Program Short-term Expert Lecture

At 4p.m on November 3rd, Professor J.Brooks Flippen held a wonderful lecture on ‘Right of Land Usage in America History’ for students of Honors College in 315 auditorium of Xuehai Building. He is currently teaching in Oklahoma State University and his research field involves American history in politics and environment. Through the lecture, students learn more about American culture.
At the beginning of the talk, the professor introduced the original history of America and how it gradually developed. He illustrated the conflicts between the original inhabitants and modern civilization, focusing on the relationship between the discovery of resources and the creation of civilization. After his explanation, students had a deeper understanding of the land usage. Not only did they learn about the relationship among land, history, religious belief and culture, but also they had more interest in America history.
When it came to the end of the lecture, professor and students interacted in terms of culture. He led students to think about the difference in education between America and China. Furthermore, he suggested that students in Honors College should pay attention to cultivating creative minds instead of accepting a rigid state of study and hoped they would harvest a bright future. The lecture wrapped up in fierce applause.
