On March 29th, Honors College held a lecture on "Physics and Its Interdiscipline" in the Room 410 of Xuehai Building. The lecture was hosted by Qian Zaijian, the dean of Honors College, and invited Professor Wang Wei as the speaker, the dean of Kuang Yaming College and Physics College of Nanjing University.
First of all, Professor Wang briefly introduced some scientific issues related to physics and biology, and he took some typical examples to help students to understand the cross-researching method. Subsequently, Professor Wang told that the important basic subjects are mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology by introducing the classification of subjects in domestic universities. And then he clarified that although disciplines are divided, but their relationships are blending. Professor Wang also cited many phenomena in the daily life and stories of some famous Nobel Prize winners to stimulate students' interest in physics. He explained the meaning of learning physics and biology with plain words and specifically emphasized the significance of interdisciplinary researches. Finally, Professor Wang shared his academic experience to encourage students to break the barriers between different subjects and actively carry out cross-discipline researches.
This lecture received a welcome from the students of Honors College and Physics College, which was of great help to enhance students' interest in learning physics and biology and broaden their horizons.
