In order to enhance the relationship between the college and students’ families, to convey the college teaching philosophy, to promote students' growth, with the occasion of the Lunar New Year approaching, Honors College carried out the winter vacation home visits and condolence activities. Home visits have become routine work and been highly valued by college leaders since 2015,when these activities were carried out for the first time. The latest home visits were actively prepared in advance, such as carefully selecting students, comprehensively analyzing students’ situations, and determining the contents and objectives of home visits. On the 22nd of January, Qian Zaixian-Dean of Honors College, Wang Xinwen-Party Secretary of Honors College, Luo Xiushan-Deputy Secretary of the party committee and Associate Dean, and all the counselors visited the families of students in Nanjing.
The visited students are the freshman representatives from liberal arts classes and science classes. College teachers introduced the concept of education and school model to the parents, and fed back the students’ behavior in the school. Dean Qian Zaixian asked students about their study, winter vacation schedules and implementation. He gave the students three suggestions. First, as a student of Honors College, he should broaden thinking and horizons, and be guided by the college guidance "set lofty goals, pursuit excellence", thus he should constantly pursuit a higher level and be determined to serve the community on a larger stage. Second, the students had better consolidate the foundation, master learning method, strengthen the study of basic subjects and methodology courses, such as mathematics, foreign language and logic. They should implement the "wide ways, solid foundation" learning philosophy. Third, through communication with mentors and seniors, they could early make a plan of the next stage, and take action to grasp important opportunities. Secretary Wang Xinwen told students that in the independent learning environment, they should maintain hard-working attitude and develop good learning habits. College leaders and teachers also explained to the students and parents about the profession choice, curriculum assessment, further study and other questions and invited parents to put forward more advice and feedback on the development of Honors College.
In addition, the college leaders and teachers also visited more than ten students who stayed in the campus to attend American Mathematical Contest in Modeling. They asked students to take care of themselves, and wished them to achieve excellent results.
The home visits conveyed college's care to students in the form of face-to-face, so that the college could have a comprehensive understanding of students, and the visits also could further strengthen the communication and cooperation between the college and the family. It’s beneficial to form a "home-school cooperation" force. In order to realize parents’ expectations, the college and teachers will take responsibility to carry out a more targeted and personalized training mode on the basis of home visits.
